About The Passport Pal

Hi, I’m Katie — nice to meet you!

The Passport Pal started with a missing journal, a kid asking “what are we doing in Nassau?”, and a marketer’s instinct that someone should fix this. So I did.

Why this exists

A few years ago, I was packing for a family cruise and looking for something simple: a printable journal my kid could fill out across our trip. Something that would keep her engaged on sea days, give her something to do at port, and become a keepsake when we got home.

What I found was generic kids’ travel journals — the same blank pages whether you were going to Disneyland, Tokyo, or a Caribbean port. “What did you do today?” written across every page. No prompts about the actual port. No scavenger hunts for the actual island. Nothing that knew the difference between a beach day in Nassau and snorkeling in Cozumel.

“A cruise stop in Cozumel doesn’t feel anything like a stop in Nassau. The journal shouldn’t either.”

So I built what I wished existed. The Passport Pal is a printable cruise journal designed specifically for cruise families — with a free starter journal that covers the whole sailing experience, plus port-specific Port Packs you add for each stop on your itinerary. Real prompts about the real places kids are visiting.

I’m a marketing professional by day, a mom always, and somewhere in between I run this little brand. I make the journals myself, design the pages, and obsess over getting the prompts just right for kids ages 4–10. If you’ve downloaded the free journal or grabbed a Port Pack — thank you. I read every email and reply to every message.

The real magic

The journals aren’t really about journaling. They’re about a kid who’s actually looking around at the port instead of at a screen. A kid who notices the colors of the water, the names of the fish, the way the lemonade tastes different here. Then writes it down in their own handwriting so future-them can find it on a shelf at twenty-five and remember exactly how they felt at seven. That’s the whole point. The journal is the excuse.
